Ørlög is a fundamental concept in Norse practices and Nordic mythology. If fate were a web, then Ørlög would be its threads. The Norse believed the future to be fixed and yet unknown. The word Ørlög comes from the old Norse word ór ‘‘out of’’ and lög ‘‘law’’. The entire meaning being ‘‘that which comes out of the law’’.
